Insider Tip

  • Unlike most frequent flyer programs that use the Imperial system, Aeromexico went with a Metric system of awarding kilometres rather than miles. This makes comparing awards of other programs more difficult. AmEx is the only program that compensates for it through a better exchange rate.
  • Rarely a good value for points transfer from credit cards. If you have to, AmEx is the best transfer partner followed by Capital One. Opt for other SkyTeam partners if using Citi’s ThankYou Program for Aeromexico flights. The program has limited appeal for US-based travelers.
  • Mexico City-based travelers should consider enrolling since Mexico City is a SkyTeam stronghold. Even then, Air France Flying Blue or Delta SkyMiles may be a better option for Mexico City-based travelers depending on their destination map. Homebase Stopover Strategy also rarely yields results for Mexico City base.
