Finnair Plus

Program overview

Finnair Plus is a loyalty program of Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland and a member of the Oneworld Alliance. This program is not widely known by US residents, but if you earn Capital One points it may be worth a look. Finnair Plus offers some good redemptions.

Point/Miles Conversion Chart

Pros

  • Low change fees
  • Round the world award ticket

Cons

  • Only one credit card transfer partner
  • High redemption prices
  • Fuel surcharges
  • Points can only be used for family or persons in the same household

Excellent for

  • Finnair flights from the US to Dubai through Helsinki for 90,000 miles in Economy and 160,000 in Business Class round trip.
  • Finnair round trip flights within Northern Europe for 15,000 miles in Economy.

Insider Tip

  • Please note that according to Finnair Plus rules, return flights must depart from and return to the same city (No open-jaw allowed).
  • If you travel in mixed travel classes during an award trip, the cost of that award will be calculated based on the highest travel class.
  • Award bookings should be made at least 7 days before departure.
  • Most one-way awards are significantly more expensive than half of a round-trip flight, so it’s always better to book round-trip flights if you have the balance necessary for it.
  • The Homebase Stopover Strategy works fairly well for Helsinki based travelers, but given the limits of the program, British Airways Executive Club may be a better option to combine with Homebase Stopover Strategy for Helsinki based travelers due to its versatility within Oneworld.
