Iberia Plus

Program overview

Iberia Plus is an Iberia airline frequent flyer program. Like British Airways, Iberia Avios are also redeemed based on a distance-based award chart. This creates some unique savings opportunity pockets over zone-based award programs, particularly on short hops, especially one the upper margins of each distance range category.

Point/Miles Conversion Chart

Pros

  • Ability to instantly transfer British Airways Avios points to Iberia Avios at a 1:1 ratio
  • Off-peak awards for a discounted price
  • Taxes for Iberia flights are lower through Iberia Plus than through the British Executive Avios
  • Partnership with all major credit card and hotel programs (directly or through British Airways transfer)
  • Better than average business class availability classic award on transatlantic flights

Cons

  • No one way awards for American Airlines flights
  • High taxes for partner airlines
  • Decent website but poor customer service

Excellent for

  • Round trip on American Airlines domestic flights starts at 11,000 Avios in Economy
  • Business Class NY to Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc for 100,000 Avios round trip and Economy for 42,000 miles
  • Chicago to Madrid in Business Class for 34,000 Avios

Insider Tip

  • There is a limited appeal for US-based travelers unless they are travelling to Spain. This program is a must for a Madrid based frequent traveler and it works best when combined with the Homebase stopover strategy.
  • The ability to transfer to Iberia and Aer Lingus expands redemption opportunities, so check all 3 programs for best options.
