A.T.L.A.S.: The New Free Travel App designed to help travelers minimize airport security lines

25 Oct 2021

The Appineers, a mobile app design and development agency, have teamed up with visionary Isabel Lopez to develop a new travel app called A.T.L.A.S., short for Avoid the Lines at Security.

Established in 2017, The Appineers is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and has previously helped create several innovative apps in the marketplace that were designed to make life easier in our digital world. With their collaboration with Isabel Lopez, they aim to make the airport experience more user-friendly and effective for all travelers.

Isabel Lopez found that she was consistently getting bogged down by long lines at the airport when trying to make a flight. She knew there had to be a better way: “Even when I arrived early, I still missed flights due to lines,” mused Lopez, “but an app cuts out any and all of the guesswork.”

She came up with the ingenious idea of creating an app that would give real-time information about the shortest lines for security and restaurants in airports.

The result? A.T.L.A.S. – a new app that came out in Spring of 2020 and helped users optimize their time in airports by showing the shortest lines, enabling travelers to make it to their departure gates in time for boarding.

Ms. Lopez’s vision for the A.T.L.A.S. app was to enhance the airport experience through crowdsourcing. Aside from giving valuable intel on which and when the security lines are less crowded, A.T.L.A.S. also provides information on parking, restaurants, and coffee stalls. The app gathers everything an airport patron would need to know to make the time before their flight friendlier and less stressful.

The entire app is based on crowdsourced airport navigation info; it allows travelers to communicate with others in the same airport. With its user-friendly interface, here is an exhaustive list of the information the app provides:

  • Chance to explore restaurants and shops in your chosen airport to make long layovers more enjoyable,
  • The opportunity to make the app more accurate by posting real-time updates on conditions of different lines throughout the airport,
  • Viewing line-length estimates, including photos and other pertinent information about various locations throughout the airport,
  • User feeds that are airport-specific, allowing for easy viewing of other users’ posts at that airport,
  • Easy navigation of new airports with simple-to-access maps
  • Current users are chiming in on this app and all its help for their travels as well.

“Being able to check if the gates around me were moving faster than the one I was at helped me jump to the next security gate. I would have missed my flight otherwise,” noted I. Russey emphasizing the great benefit of seeing the situation of the security lines even before you get tangled in them.

Another user, P.T., highlighted the app’s map function, extremely vital when one is in an unfamiliar airport, “I was new to the DFW Airport (Dallas-Ft. Worth), being able to see the airport layout helped me! I had never used the Tran before, and seeing which terminal I had a connecting flight to minimized my stress!”

The app’s success dangles on its ability to attract a critical mass of active users who would actively provide info about their experience at the airport. The app is not exactly there yet, but we are hopeful its audience will grow, as the service could become instrumental once it catches on. We are rooting for you, A.T.L.A.S!

The A.T.L.A.S. app is available for download on the Apple iOS Store and Google Play Store, and it is free!
