Comfort in the Sky: A Game-Changing Offering

18 Aug 2023

Long haul flights are not for everybody since not every traveler can handle the challenge of sitting and resting in cramped seats for hours. Although some airlines offer lie-flat seats or private rooms, some customers deem these offers expensive.
The good news is long haul routes might become more comfortable for passengers soon. If you don’t know yet, Air New Zealand will be launching a new type of add-on for economy class travelers in September 2024.

Revolutionizing Long Haul Flights

Originally revealed in early 2020, Skynest is Air New Zealand’s attempt at revolutionizing long haul flight experiences. The airline operates the world’s longest regularly scheduled passenger flight from Auckland to New York.
To be more specific, Skynest is an add-on service that offers bunk beds for passengers of long haul flights to sleep in. The new offering will be conveniently placed in Air New Zealand’s newest fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Aside from offering beds for travelers, Skynest comes with innovative designs and features.

Each pod will be installed with USB charging ports so passengers can charge the devices they’re using while onboard. Additionally, these bunk beds will come with curtains to ensure privacy and ventilation outlets that will maintain air quality.
Passengers will also be provided with pillows and eye masks should they wish to sleep. Additionally, it should be noted that each customer will only be given a 4-hour session in each pod. After every rest period, mattresses and sheets will be replaced.
In case you’re wondering how much Skynest will cost, Leanne Geraghty, the Chief Customer and Sales Officer of Air New Zealand said that the airline is considering a price range of around NZD 400 to 600 per session.
By launching Skynest, Air New Zealand differentiates itself from their competitors by providing a unique selling proposition for their customers. Airplane sleeping pods are unique innovations in air travel that bring comfort to travelers.
