Here are five things even frequent flyers get wrong!

Think you know all there is to flying and being a pro-traveler?

Well, think again. Even experts get things wrong sometimes!

In fact, an expert will tell you to NEVER believe that you’ve learned all there is to know about a topic. (In this case, it’s traveling.) There’s always a chance that you’ll learn something new, even about the things that you might consider yourself a master in.

With that said, here are a few mistakes that you might unknowingly be committing, even as an experienced globetrotter. These five things may just be preventing you from enjoying your trips to the fullest.

    1. Not applying for a credit card with a point system

If you haven’t already, consider applying for a credit card that lets you accumulate points. This is because using a credit card can offer valuable rewards (some more than others), such as airline miles or hotel points that can ultimately reduce your travel expenses.

The key is to use your credit cards strategically. Read up on the benefits that each provider has to offer. Certain credit cards even come with travel insurance, as well as offer access to exclusive airport lounges, which certainly feels like a treat when traveling.

The real treat comes later on: When you’re finally able to use the points you’ve worked hard to collect on the vacation you’ve always dreamed of.

Redeem your credit card points to pay for your flight, hotel stay, and other travel-related expenses that you wouldn’t normally splurge on.

Then, you can experience luxury without guilt! After all, you deserve to pamper yourself every now and then.

    2. Failing to maximize your points

      Do. Your. Research.

Not all credit cards are created equal. Thus, it’s much better to apply for one that lets you acquire additional points.

Take note that you must meet your service provider’s eligibility criteria for bonus points. For example, some credit cards require you to spend a minimum amount and/or within a specific period of time to be granted bonus points.

By keeping your service provider’s eligibility criteria for bonus points in mind, you can potentially earn more to spend later through using your credit card.

      A kind reminder, though:

If you’re going the extra mile to ensure you’re accumulating points on your credit card, make sure you’re able to consume them before they expire. The last thing you want is for all your efforts to go to waste.

Points are, essentially, currency, and expired points can be considered money lost. You might as well spend your points on something!

    3. Picking a different airline every time you fly

At some point, you’ll realize that you enjoy flying with certain airlines more than others. So, pick your favorite airline, ideally one with a frequent flyer program, then stick with it.

Besides, joining your preferred airline’s frequent flyer program will give you access to perks such as cabin upgrades, lounge access, complimentary checked bags, and priority boarding. You’ll also be able to collect points as you do with your credit card, which you can eventually redeem for future trips.

    4. Using Data Roaming

Too many people have fallen victim to international roaming charges. Coming home to a phone bill amounting to thousands of dollars can really sour your mood—not to mention, ruin the memory of your holiday altogether.

So, if you’re traveling to another country, it’s much more economical to purchase a prepaid SIM or e-SIM card with unlimited data. That’s because data roaming charges can really add up, especially if you plan on going on an extended vacation.

With e-SIM cards, you won’t have to worry about temporarily changing your phone number. Although, it’s important to note that most e-SIMs are limited to internet access and will not allow you to make or take any texts and calls.

    5. Not bringing enough cash

Given the existence of credit cards and the rise of digital payment methods, it’s easy to fall into a false sense of security… but don’t be fooled! Not all places accept credit cards or e-payments.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to have cash on hand. There’s no worse feeling than seeing something you really, really want, only to find that there’s no way for you to pay for it.

There you have it—five common mistakes that can seriously dampen your travel experience! By keeping these things in mind, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a true pro-traveler.

So, pack your bags, book your flights, and let your next adventure begin!

Remember: A well-informed traveler is a happy traveler.
