The US is easing travel restrictions for fully vaccinated foreigners as global COVID numbers continue to decrease

27 Sep 2021

The White House announced last Monday (September 20, 2021) that fully vaccinated travelers from 33 countries (including Britain, China, India, Brazil, and most of Europe) will be allowed to enter the US for nonessential reasons starting from early November.

A negative COVID test taken within 3 days of departure to the United States and completed COVID-19 Passenger Locator Form will be required.

While which vaccines will be accepted will become clearer in the upcoming weeks, spokesperson Kristen Nordlund said, "The CDC considers someone fully vaccinated with any FDA-authorized or approved vaccines and any vaccines that (the World Health Organization) has authorized.” We are yet to see full details and we hope the US follows the WHO-approved vaccine list to admit international travelers as Astra Zeneca, Europe's most commonly administered vaccine and it is yet to be approved by FDA.

Still, the US opening up again is great news and not just for foreign visitors coming to the US, but also for Americans. The transatlantic flight schedule has been lackluster since a large percentage of travelers could not travel. We are hoping the travels will restart and dozens of the transatlantic flights will be added before the end of 2022 although they will exclude some of the eligible travelers. KLM already reversed most of their fall schedule cuts on the news.

Delta variant recently experienced its peak and since then, COVID cases around the world are decreasing once again. This is a big development towards the normalization of global travel. Airlines and hotels are once again cautiously optimistic.
